outdoor meeting 2000x550 - What we do

What we do

The Innovation in the Wild series is a new style of business support developed by the University of Exeter, under the Future Focus programme.

While traditional workshops have taken place in seminar type formats, this series instead takes businesses into spaces that invigorate and inspire, using a combination of methods that enable open innovation.

Activities help to change how we think

Activities include networking while walking along the Cornish coastline, coming up with new business ideas while bodyboarding in the Atlantic, solving problems with similar businesses after an invigorating yoga session.

Underpinned by academic research from Professor Allen Alexander, Associate Professor in Innovation and Circular Economy at the University of Exeter Business School, these sessions create the right conditions for generating thinking and discussion within peer-to-peer networks.

Being Outdoors

Current workplace best practice is moving towards a model that better supports employee wellbeing. Being outdoors and in nature has been shown to support this. Incorporating these concepts into the Innovation in the Wild series can reduce stress as well as enabling productivity and wellness.

Walking boosts creativity.  A person’s creative output might increase by up to 60% during and after walking.  There is significant theoretical grounding for the technique that underpins the Innovation in the Wild series.
